Lucky Guy asked:

I am planning to get stripes on my Mustang but they are really expensive if i do it in some auto shop. Can i get stickers online which i can stick rather painting?

Please help me with some best inexpensive ways to get stripes.

Well its 2002 GT brown , so which stripe color goes good?

Thanx in advance

couple of sugjestions here reasoable priced as well. lets start with the pattern. are you planning on rally stripes ( 2 side by side accross the top?) a lazer light would be awsome for this but barring this start with simple string and run it from the front of the car to the rear pull it tight. you want this line dirrectly down the center. measure that its exactly the same from engine hood left and right sides, in the center of the roof and on the rear most part of the deck. when good, put a piece of masking tape under the string at the rear center and front and pesil a line where the the string is at. now measure from that mark outward aprx 1 foot and place another piece of tape setting the outer edge of the tape as your marker. do the same on the other side depending on how wide you want them appart try running a test line . you can use a chalk line with white or blue chalk get a friend to hold the one end on the tapes edge at the rear pull it tight and hold it tight to the same edge at top the switch and repeat from the front. you’ll have an easily removable test mark to view and shift to taste. when satisfied you have two options paint or pin stripe tape kit. the tapes are available in many different colors and aprx 4 inch wide. you have to have a trust worthy friend to help you apply this as you only have one shot at setting it on. thats why i told you of the line previously. both paint and stripe reqiure you to have a clean surface so give it a good bath. i’d advide ruffing the surface for adhesion for the tape not much needed though simple scotch brite pad staying in the area to get the tape. you could also paint the stripe with duplicolor spray paint ( it’s a better grade of spray paint )meant to touch up car paint and a large aray of colors to choose from. a bronze would look hot on your color I think, anyway you use the blue masking tape for this basiclly do the same as i said before lay out your planned stripe area, step back check it for your satisfaction width and location adjust as needed, use some mediem to fine wet dry sand paper and dull the suface to be painted for adhesion wipe with tack cloth as you must keep it lint free. tape and paper the area’s not being painted and aply a light coat of the paint from the back of the roof to the front staying 4 to 6 inches from the surface. if you can find it get one of those spray can sprayer handles it gines you better control. as you get to the front windshield (also taped and papered) spay just past where the roof meets it (less runs)do another coat this time a little heavier but still in one continuos motion and past the edge as before. do the trunk and hood in the same manner. let dry over night. I would advise purchasing the clear coat spray from duplicolor and put a coat over your stripes after it dries completely. hope this helped a bit

Only inexpensive way is paint it yourself. Check with Ford for a kit or go to Roush Racing. Could even try Summit Racing.

Save up and get it done by a pro. Your car is not a Box, it’s a Ford so treat it like one&look after it. Don’t make your car look dodgy.. Oh yeah, It is ok to hand paint a chevy though. lol…
