How can I identify what year a mustang rear axle is out of?

The axle/differential assembly was installed in my 87 Mustang GT but is out of a newer Mustang. It has 5 lug axles and disc brakes. The differential tag reads:
S2296
3L27 88 OD29
I need to get new rotors and a new brake caliper.
