I am looking into buying a 1966 Ford Mustang from my friend and I was just wondering how much horsepower it was. I asked my friend but he didn’t know. I could probally find it somewhere. But this is easyer. It is a 1966, coupe, 6 cylinder, automatic transmission, Ford Mustang. It is not a Shelby Mustang. Just a standard Mustang. It needs a little work, but the engine is fine. All orignal parts. Thank you!

Daniel Stephens asked:

AFE which is short for Advanced Flow Engineering, was founded in 1999 for the sole purpose that there was a lack of choice for in aftermarket for high performance air intake systems. They have a team full of engineers, machinists, production and sales people all working together to bring the industry the best that can be offered. AFE Filters has dedicated themselves to building a superior product that had special attention paid to the finer details, thus to set them apart from everyone else. AFE claims that their products produce the same as all the others with subtle differences to increase your performance.

First we will be talking about the different filter medias. AFE offers three different filter options. We will be talking about their use on the mustangs. The first filter media, on the standard mustang performance filters there is a 5-layer progressive mesh media. The second filter media called their Pro-Guard 7 there is, you guessed it seven layers. The third filter media is called their PRO Dry S Filter media and is an oil free filter. That means when it is cleaned it does not have to be re oiled with an oil regeneration kit. Only the 5 layer oiled filter and the pro dry S filter medias are available for the mustang. Second is pleat spacing, the aFe Mustang intakes are generally 25% taller and more spaced out than competitors filters. Third is the pleat shape. By having the pleat shape rounded it allows air to flow through the tops and bottoms of the pleats thus increasing air flow. Fourth is the seal shape. AFE uses a gradual bump seal made of polyurethane which stays soft and flexible to decrease the amount of heat and chemical damage. The final difference is the degree of wicking between AFE and the competition. “Wicking” is the amount of polyurethane that is absorbed by the cotton gauze media during the manufacturing process. They strive to minimize “wicking” on all of their intakes.

Now to what AFE mustang intakes have to offer. AFE offers several different products that cater to the different vehicle applications. Gains range from about 10 horse power to about 50 horse power. Depending on the model you may be getting more horse power to improve acceleration and optimized air flow to improve fuel efficiency. With the prices for gas the highest in history who these afe mustang intakes help out quite a bit with claims of 1 to 2 miles per gallon increases in fuel efficiency to the conservative driver. They also boast that they can increase your air flow from 10-75% which again translates to power and fuel economy increases. Advanced Flow Engineerings is an industry leader in the cold air intake market and is a significant contributor to the mustang performance industry.

Matthew C. Keegan asked:

Ford didn’t wait for the auto show to begin to unveil the next generation Mustang however. Instead, the automaker gathered together one thousand rabid Mustang enthusiasts on Tuesday night and revealed the car directly to them. When Ford’s press conference kicked off today, the Mustang was shown on tape, but the 2010 Ford Fusion and Ford Fusion Hybrid were the featured models.

Still, what is now old news to some is still a source of pride for the Ford Motor Company. Ford made certain that the tagline, “America’s Muscle Car” was repeated often with the car’s introduction and in the related media material release. With the Dodge Challenger already on the market and the Chevrolet Camaro set to come back from the dead next Spring, Ford isn’t about to cede any ground to its competitors.

The next generation 2010 blends the retro look of the current generation Mustang which was introduced in 2005 to rave reviews. Approximately the same size as the current iteration, the 2010 has a slightly more rounded look, the V8 produces more horsepower without any hit to fuel economy, and as Ford says the car produces a more throatier note. What’s a muscle car without a growl?

Inside, the car features SYNC technology as standard equipment and coordinated ambient lighting to give the cabin a warm, soothing look.

“There is definite Mustang DNA in the 2010 air register design,” said Mustang Design Manager Gary Morales. “The combination of circular and rectangular register shapes is well-represented in our family tree, but the forms are modern and inspired by the exhaust outlets drilled into the aluminum. Each gauge is fully encircled with chrome rings inset precisely into the IP to achieve a well-crafted appearance.”

Other interior changes include an updated center stack, improved seating, and new instrument panel.

Prices have been announced for the many Mustang models and variations thereof, but the bulk of Mustangs being sold will retail in the 20-30,000 range with the sky as the limit for customized, specialty models.

Eric Buck asked:

For many car enthusiasts, the Mustang is ruled to be one of the most esteemed. But how did this favorite vehicle really come to be? Well, it all started back in spring of 1964. Lee Iacocca, the General Manager of Ford Motor Company, always thought of having a medium sized sports car and proclaiming it as the next contender in street wars. But Ford decided to go for broke and unveil a brand new type of car. What was born of Iacocca’s budding concept is the “Pony Car”. It was engineered, in the beginning, as a two-passenger modeled after the European-style, but a business-savvy Iacocca knew that the future of this new model banked on a large number of sales. Thus the design was refined further and the Ford Mustang was designed after the Falcon, which was compact in design, so that production expenses could be shaved. This new vehicle was originally named P-51, after the famous fighter plane. But, many comparisons were made to the Mustang, a type of horse and it ultimately became both symbol and theme to the cars. True to its namesake, the Mustang sold 22,000 units on the very first day of it’s debut and went on to sell a million more within the next few years thus gaining the respect of both the industry and car enthusiasts during that time.

By the time 1966 came rolling in, the Mustang was developed yet again. They altered the design of the instrument panel to differentiate the Mustang from the Falcon. The 260 cubic inch V8 was also replaced with 2 and 4 barrel types of the 289 cid V8. A year later, a 100 % revampment materialized in the design of the Mustang, these changes include a thicker sheet metal below its belt line, a meaner grille, a hollow tail panel, and a fastback roof line for the fastback design of the vehicle’s body. These 1967 Shelby’s were more advanced in terms of design. It also had more elements that provided luxury to the passenger. The 1967 Shelby’s were the last to be designed by the Shelby-American Company. Every model subsequent were built by Ford with negligible involvement for Shelby. In 1968, the Mustang underwent some more changes. The grille was changed into something simpler and its 427 engines were powered down but even still, they were more than able to get people’s eye when motoring down the streets. Also in the same year was when Ford released what was to be their most infamous engine ever. The 428 Cobra Jet, as it was called, was rumored to have an output of 410 bhp. The Shelby’s were still in production and a new design, a convertible, was also made available. This convertible design was called the Shelby Cobra.

Through the subsequent years of 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 more adjustments were made to the original Mustang design. In 1969, the Shelby’s that were produced became more oriented to being a luxury car. The Boss Mustangs were also unveiled the same year. These Boss Mustangs were made to qualify for the NASCAR races. By 1970, the public still preferred the Cobra engine to the other engines that were coming out during that time. By 1971, Ford’s many years of being a total performance vehicle were coming to an end. This would also be the only year that Ford’s performance was considered to be declining. In 1973, several mistakes and changes in the rules forced modifications to the design of the Mustang as well. This time, what used to be a car produced for high performance debuted a new model, the Mustang II, with no claims to anything as marvelous as what its descendants had done.

Driving with faulty or damaged lighting components is a great risk to your safety especially if you have to go through unfamiliar terrains and locations or under low visibility areas. The lights are included in the safety systems of your car to stay away from accidents as much as possible. Its importance is indispensable that is why traffic rules and policies requires the use of standard lighting components although you may also mount optional lights for added illumination of the road you are driving in.

Vitally needed for any vehicle make or model are headlamp or headlights, corner lights or side marker lights fog lights, , turn signal lights, taillights, projector headlights, parking lights, brake lights and projector headlight. Regular check up, repair and maintenance are a must to ensure that the lighting components are in tip top condition to effectively and efficiently perform its expected purpose.

Projector headlights are mounted on the front section of the car. The type of light it gives off is intended for a more focused lighting specifically if the road you’ll be taking is full of twisting curves and rounds. Such trip requires projector headlights in tip top condition so be sure to check it first before taking control of the car’s steering wheel.

Any damaged component must be replaced at once to avoid negative after effects. Replacements and add-ons are accessible both in your nearest local store and in the internet. With web based stores, selection can be made easier since it only requires a little browsing unlike in traditional stores which may need a personal visit to see if the replacement part is suited for the features, specs and configurations of the car. Could be included in your list of choices is an Mustang headlight, the name noted for their top quality performance and distinct auto appeal.

There are several online stores selling quality projector headlights. All you have to do is look for the store that is honest and reliable. There are already many scammers online and the best thing you can do to protect yourself from them is by being careful. One way to know if a store is reliable or not is by calling Consumers Advocates, Consumers Advocates should be able to tell you if a store has any reported misconduct or if a store can be trusted.

Black housing projector headlights have became more popular in the market because the factory headlights are usually made with chrome housing and you can see immediately see the difference in the appearance after the installation.

Jean Cocteau once said “A car can massage organs which no masseur can reach. It is the one remedy for the disorders of the great sympathetic nervous system.” Jean Cocteau found automobiles to be a masseur of the whole body. I bet Jean was probably talking about a Ford Mustang when he was writing this quote. Now if you want to find a Mustang that will give you the best message then you should ride in the 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR.

The 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR is a special-edition GT500 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original “King of the Road.” The GT500KR is a product after the GT500 to wear the mostly extinct SVT Badge trying to prove to us that Ford still has a performance division.

The 1967 New York auto show host the launch of the original Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR that is powered by a 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet V-8 engine with 335 horsepower. The 2008 Shelby KR models are supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 engine under the hood with a Ford Power Upgrade Pack that comes with revised ignition timing and throttle calibration. The 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR that over takes the older model by 205 horsepower.

Other than the racing stripes and hood vents the other Shelby GT500’s have, the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR comes with a signature hood with two forward looking mail slots at the leading edge of the hood feeding the blown 5.4’s appetite for air and twist-down hood pins for a more secure racing genius.

The test done recently on the Shelby GT badge did not go well when the stick through pins of the badge vibrated out on rough terrain. The badges used on the Cobra grille and fenders have wings on them in celebration of the 40th anniversary GT500KR edition. The rocker stripes on the GT500KR are the same as it predecessor.

They have a Triton engine that uses four valves per cylinder instead of three that are used in the iron block truck version and they use the cylinder heads from the Ford GT, that has a aluminum block.

Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe once said “There is no past that we can bring back by longing for it. There is only an eternally new now that builds and creates itself out of the Best as the past withdraws.” So remember these thoughts when thinking about purchasing the 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR. It will not last forever.

They are only going to produce one thousand of these, they will being selling the 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR in Spring. You can probably bet with the S word on the hood and a power bump should have about $12,000 premium, putting the King of the Road about $50,000 area.

The director of the advanced product creation and SVT division of ford Hermann Salenbauch said the Shelby GT500 is one of the most successful cars they have ever made in almost every way.

Richard Bach once said “A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed…It feels an impulsion…this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.” Richard has left out some need to know information – How do we get beyond the horizon? Well for those of you seeking the answer. You get beyond the horizon in a Ford Mustang.

In 1993 Ford had a brilliant idea to create a special in-house team that will focus on pure power and performance. They named the group the Special Vehicle Team and for years it was the only one of its kind. Chief engineer for Ford SVT was John Coletti who was able to push out some of the best and most powerful cars on the market.

In 2003 Coletti had completed his 10th year in operation of SVT and sold 100,000 high performance cars. This included the SVT Lightning and the fourth generation SVT Cobra Mustang. In order to celebrate this milestone they created one of the highest rated horsepower and torque Mustangs that they could during that time. The total cost of this special edition Cobra was $34,750 with the convertible costing $38,850.

The 2003 SVT Cobra Mustang is built with the four-valve aluminum heads that can also be found on the Mustang Mach 1 - but it is also built with an Eaton Roots-type supercharger. This engine pushes out 390 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 390 pound-ft of torque at 3500 rpm.

It also comes with a T-56 six speed manual transmission, bigger tires, improved brakes, and stiffer rear spring that can handle more power. The interior is finished with some brushed aluminum accents, heavily bolstered Nudo leather bucket seats, and titanium colored gauges.

For many years now people have looked to the Mustang to be one of the best muscle cars on the automotive market. For the past five years Ford has been using the same style and design that takes its cues from the late 1960’s model. But for the 2010 model they are switching things up.

Engineers and designers have improved the aerodynamics for the 2010 Mustang and redesigned many things. The basic theme of the Mustang has not been lost and still stays true to the inset headlamps and forward canted grille. The turn signals though have been repositioned into the pocket with the headlamps and seem to be slightly smaller.

The hood has been re-contoured and has been given the “power dome” in the center of it. When you look at the edged you can see that the hood and the fender have been partially concave to leave a ridge that travels back to the A-pillar. The entire leading edge of the hoods now is able to curve down to help the airflow around the nose and over the top of the vehicle.

One of the things that people did not like about the 2005 model was the interior because it was made with plastic and rather cheap materials. That is why in the 2010 model Ford got rid of these materials and instead opted for an aluminum dash and trim. It is now smooth and looks much more sophisticated.

Ford carried over the components for the drive train and suspension to this model. However, they did make some improvements on the V8 GT model. Paul Randle - the chief engineer - stated that the most current Mustang Bullitt has been labeled the best Mustang because it has the right amount of power and handling. That is why they chose it to be the baseline for the brand new GT model.

The 2010 Mustang GT will keep the three valve 4.6 liter V8 engine. It is now able to push out 315 horsepower and 325 pound-ft of torque. The air intake has been redesigned so that the fresh air will be drawn from behind the grille instead of from the wheel wall. The duct from the air filter box all the way to the throttle body has been redesigned and straightened to help reduce flow restriction. To make for a quieter ride they have added new sound installation.

There is one new feature that Ford will be adding to the 2010 Mustang. Electronic stability control will now become a standard feature on all models. It will default on the car. On the V6 Mustang model drivers will be given the option to turn this feature off. While the V6 model can switch it to a performance mode. The 2010 Mustang was debuted at the LA Auto Show and will go on sale in the middle of December.
