andieligon asked:

My parents are planning on buying a used 1964 mustang. Before they put down the money for it, I want to know if I will even be able to afford driving it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

My guess would be around 12 mpg…but it depends on how well the engine is. You might want to ask the current owner what it gets…

Well its a V6 that weights around 1.5tons so it’ll be like a really strong car or small, weak SUV

it all depends on the carburetor but in general about 8-15mpg
depending on the engine too

depends if its a V8 or if its a V6. I have a 1971 mustang with a V8 and i get 9 miles to the gallon on premium.

I have a 1966 Mustang with a 200 CID straight 6 manual transmission. It gets between 23-25 mpg average. I am not sure about the V8 models, but would imagine that a 260 CID or 289 CID would return something in the neighborhood of 18-20 mpg. The fuel economy of these cars didn’t really plummet until around 1967 when Mustang started getting heavier and was equipped with the 390.

First off, there never was a 64 Mustang, the 65 was the first year and some call the ones that came out a few months early a 64 1/2. the early ones have engine codes of D, F, U, and all have generators instead of alternators…

Mileage really depends on the engine, trans, and rear-end gears. A six with 3 speed stick will get 18 in town and 25 on the highway, thats if its in good shape and your not racing it. The V8 is 13 in town and 15-19 on the highway…

bad, very bad gas mileage. Most likely you can’t afford the insurance either.
